2022 Sorento Plug-in Hybrids Ready to Compete in Rebelle Rally

 

Kia is also participating in the 2021 All-Women’s Rebelle Rally and its vehicle of choice is the 2022 Sorento Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) and it’s going to be two of them. They are modified and trail-ready to tackle the 1,500-mile desert challenge. Performance and exterior upgrades are inspired by last year’s Zion and Yosemite Sorento X-Line Concepts and both are equipped to take on the off-road challenges during the event. With a total of 52 teams competing in the off-road rally, that gives Kia ample opportunity to showcase the off-road capabilities of its Sorento Plug-in Hybrids through the grueling terrain and open country of the California desert.         

Race-Ready Plug-in Hybrids

Both Sorento PHEVs are customized by LGE-CTS Motorsports and feature a custom vehicle wrap in “Desert Sand” and “Pine Green” exterior colors along with Kia decals. Both Sorentos are equipped with underbody armor to protect their undersides in addition to a front bumper guard and skid plate. Tow hooks have been placed in the front and rear bumpers and a 1-inch spacer lift provides it with a higher ride height. Both vehicles ride on top of 17-inch matte black wheels from KMC Wheels and they are wrapped in Hankook all-terrain tires. But the upgrades don’t stop there, on the roof of the Sorento duo is a roof rack for the teams’ recovery gear such as tread boards and shovels just in case the vehicles get stuck along the way. For added safety and security, there is live tracking and monitoring of each vehicle in the rally so event officials know exactly where each vehicle is at all times.               

Hankook Tire Sponsor

Hankook is the official tire sponsor of the Kia Sorento PHEV and to show for it, Hankook decals are displayed on the rear passenger windows. One of the benefits of having a sponsor in any motorsport event is that it shapes the consumer attitude toward a product, and in this case, it’s the Kia Sorento PHEV. In addition to the Rebelle Rally, Kia is committed to donating $10,000 to Girls Inc. of Orange County, a non-profit organization that empowers young girls in areas such as college readiness, financial literacy, body image, healthy relationships, and much more. As a bonus, if one of the Kia teams wins the Team Spirit Award, Girls Inc. of Orange County will receive an additional $5,000 from Rebelle Rally. Just like Hankook tires, a Girls Inc. logo is also imprinted on the rear windows of the Sorento PHEV.
